OUR STORY
A Legacy of Family and Flavour
Adriatic Ship Supply & Trading Company was founded in 1970 by Renzo Reffo, built on a clear vision of quality, service and trust. The business began in Durban, supplying ship stores to foreign vessels and forming strong relationships with leading international shipping lines. As the shipping industry evolved, Adriatic adapted. With fewer passenger vessels arriving in Durban, the focus shifted toward importing and distributing authentic Italian food and wine to South Africa. This transition marked the beginning of Adriatic as it is known today.
The philosophy has remained consistent through every chapter. Only the finest products, sourced from respected Italian producers, carefully selected and proudly shared. In 1983, the business expanded to Johannesburg, establishing a warehouse to better serve a growing customer base.
Adriatic’s journey into professional catering equipment began with the introduction of La San Marco coffee machines, supported by a long-standing partnership with Segafredo Zanetti. This was followed by IGF pizza equipment and the Sirman range, bringing world-class kitchen, bar, and butchery equipment to South Africa. Today, Adriatic offers a complete range of professional catering equipment, supported by knowledgeable staff, technical expertise, and reliable after-sales service, including spare parts and ongoing support.
In 2010, Roberto Reffo joined his father Maurizio in leading the business. Soon after, Maurizio’s second son, Renzo, became part of the company, continuing the legacy of a family deeply connected to its roots.
Today, Adriatic operates across Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban, with dedicated teams and distribution centres in each region. While the business has grown, the approach remains personal, grounded, and centred around the same values it was built on.
